Dr. Elsa is a data-powered, smart telemedicine and health service that aims to improve the national state of health through affordable, inclusive, and high quality access to health expertise. We do this in two ways: supporting care providers in making diagnoses through smart insights (powered by data and Artificial Intelligence) and delivering health tools and information directly to patients through a mobile application.
Dr. Elsa is powered by machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) and supports physicians and healthcare workers in making diagnoses, developing disease prediction models, and better analyzing health data. For example, when a healthcare worker sees a patient they input demographic and symptom information into the Dr. Elsa Health Assistant and instantly receive AI-powered insights to the patient’s diagnosis. This allows them to make more informed decisions, even without expert medical knowledge or access to a specialist. Patient insights are determined by our algorithms based on a range of input data. In order to power our system, we collect and analyze data from partner institutions in Arusha.
The Dr. Elsa Health Assistant has also been developed as a patient-facing service that allows individuals to ask questions to qualified medical professionals, receive information about their health through curated content, locate nearby health services, and use AI powered tools that support and track their health. The Dr. Elsa application is available on Google Play.
We strive to introduce Dr. Elsa’s Health Assistant a service that seamlessly integrates into the current healthcare delivery systems, and are hoping to support diagnostics at a range of public and private institutions that make up the health infrastructure in the country. We work closely with district and regional medical officers, as well as the Ministry of Health in Tanzania to collect data, test our algorithms, and implement our AI health assistant. We seek guidance and approval for all of our programs and systems from government offices in charge of the nation’s health and ensure that our programs are in line with national initiatives.
